Smoking is injurious to health - though, this is a very cliché statement, but still there is no substitution to this statement. A cigarette contains more than 4000 chemical compounds and at least 400 toxic substances. When you smoke, the cigarette burns at 700 degree Celsius at the tip and around 60 degree in the core. - Tar, which is a carcinogen and is the substance that could cause cancer.

The damage caused by smoking depends upon a few things that include the number of cigarettes you smoke, is the cigarette has a filter or how the tobacco has been prepared etc. Obviously, more the number of cigarettes, more the quantity of damage. According to the research, smoking reduces the life expectancy by seven to eight years. The number of people who are under the age of 70 years and die from smoking related diseases is higher than the total number of deaths caused by breast cancer, AIDS, traffic accidents and drug addiction. Non-smokers are even lead a healthier old age life than the regular smokers.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) like emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

- Heavy smokers likely to get macular degeneration that result in the loss of eyesight gradually.
